I love Coffee Creamer!

Although I don't drink coffee, or caffeine, I drink de-caf tea, but I still love the creamer with my tea.

I used to drink Coffee Mate French Vanilla - and these are the ingredients of it
INGREDIENTS: WATER, SUGAR, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, AND LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE)**, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, DISODIUM PHOSPHATE, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CELLULOSE GEL, CELLULOSE GUM, COLOR ADDED, CARRAGEENAN.

It contains GMO and partially hydrogenated soybean and/or cottonseed oil.  It contains 5g of sugar per serving which is 1 tablespoon.  I did try the Coffee Mate Natural Bliss French Vanilla and it was yummy but they do not state that the product comes from cows that were not given rBST or from cows that didn't eat GMO corn. It also has 5g of sugar per serving which is 1 tablespoon.

So I decided to try a few others to see which ones I liked.

It did have a coconut after taste and it didn't mix very well with the tea if you let it sit for a while.

This was very yummy and it didn't have the mixing issues - the label explicitly says GMO free which I like.  Also this one has slightly less sugar 8g for 2 tablespoons vs. 9g for 2 tablespoons. I probably should just give up this habit but I look forward to it every morning and it is part of my routine.

Future Mothers Pay Attention!

Diabetes is a very serious problem.  Check out this Los Angeles Times article from November 16, 2012.

Pay attention to the sugar you are eating.  Especially with foods labeled low fat.  They are only able to make those low fat foods taste good because they load it full of sugar instead.  I just realized that the yogurt I like to eat had 16g of sugar. They add sugar to most everything these days, even bread.

This is especially important to expecting mothers...don't pump your kid full of insulin!  If you want to learn more about how sugar effects the body watch this documentary.

RECOMMENDED GRAMS OF SUGAR FOR MEN

As caloric and nutritional intakes vary between men and women, so do recommendations for sugar grams. The American Heart Association states that men should not consume more than 9 tbsp. of sugar in a day. This measurement of sugar equates to a recommended limit of 45 g of sugar per day for men.

RECOMMENDED GRAMS OF SUGAR FOR WOMEN

The recommended sugar intake for women is less than that of men. The AHA advises women to limit their intake of sugar to 6 tbsp. of sugar each day. This translates to a daily recommended limit of 30 g of sugar.

My guilty pleasure.  I don't buy these all the time but they are NON GMO so they are somewhat guilt free.  They are delicious too! We paid $4.99 at Sprouts and $3.99 at Smart and Final for the same size bag, just an FYI.

They seem to be a respectible company as well http://www.kettlebrand.com/about_us/sustainability/
They convert their left over vegeitable oil into biodiesel and use wind and solar power in their production.

Trader Joe's Label is NON GMO!!!

Super News!

Trader Joe's labeled products are sourced from NON-GMO Ingredients

Trader Joe's Website Verification

Look at the bottom of this link

I even called my local store to confirm. As of right now the Trader Joe's employee I spoke to said he didn't know if Trader Joe's would be specially labeling their brand as NON-GMO, but I suggested that they do.

My lunch tomorrow:

Thanks to Erin Weidemann for finding this info today.

Today's yummy NON GMO find!

Hello All! In my quest for Non GMO foods I ventured to Mother's Market in search of something frozen that I could eat for lunch at work.  I had about 5 minutes to find something and stumbled upon a product by Helen's Kitchen - Veggie Fajita Bowl.

This GMO Free Label is a bit different from others but always try to spot that on your products.  There are so many that say it.  I will say the meal was very good.  Way lower in sugar than many other microwave lunch items and not too bad in carbs.  Does have a bit more sodium than I would like though.  Also, it only cost $4.89! I am usually in a rush to eat lunch and unless I have leftovers it is a struggle to find non GMO food items at the Deli in my building.  I look forward to eating more of these for lunch.

Chaos at Trader Joes parking lot

Would you rather lose a parking space or get in a car accident?  I would rather lose a parking space, and I think most people feel the same.  However, the chase of the parking space seems to make some people forget the rules of the road, which does not tend improve the greater good.  Today I was in a Trader Joes parking lot about to turn right to go down an aisle of parking spaces.  Barreling toward me to the right in a perpendicular fashion is a blue BMW 5 Series.  The BMW turns right onto the road on which I am driving and cuts me off just so he can make another immediate right onto another parking space aisle that has an empty parking space.  I had to slam on my breaks to not hit him.

So after that I was a tad hot in the collar and I turn down an aisle of parking spaces and I see that the end space is open.  Then I see that there is a girl walking an empty shopping cart into the parking space and literally leaves this empty shopping cart in the space such that no car can now fit and the shopping cart cannot be easily relocated to a better place.  I was almost in disbelief but decided to stay calm and inch into the parking space anyway (there were no other spots available).  She turns around and sees me and looks like she's been caught red handed.  She gestured to ask if I was going to park in the space and I just shrugged my shoulders and put my hands in the air.   She quickly got the cart and took it to the appropriate place to leave it.  I am pretty sure this lady knew that she was doing something lazy because she quickly corrected it, but fully blocking a parking space for no reason is not improving the greater good.  I bet the parking space would have remained blocked for at least 10 minutes before the cart retrieval employees of Trader Joes came around, but in my opinion that ten minutes matters.
